Atalanta Preview: Chasing history

Atalanta have endured a difficult few months but Gian Piero Gasperini’s Bergamasci have propelled themselves back into the title race with some big wins on the road in the last month or so and the latest was a famous win in Turin last weekend.

The hosts come into this one having dispatched of Juventus by four goals to nil at the Allianz Stadium in Piedmont last weekend thanks to goals from Mateo Retegui, which came via the penalty spot, as well as Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta and Ademola Lookman.

Inter Milan Preview: Chasing the treble

Simone Inzaghi’s Internazionale defeated Feyenoord by two goals to one in the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at San Siro in midweek, to defeat the Rotterdam-based club by four goals to one on aggregate as they chase the treble.

The defending Italian champions have risen back to the top-of-the-table in Serie A, sitting a point clear of Napoli at the top-of-the-table. Their most recent outing in the league saw them have to come from 2-0 down to defeat bottom-of-the-table Monza by three goals to two.

Atalanta Team News: Deep squad

Atalanta have a very deep squad and Gasperini has been able to rotate a fair bit with even Juan Cuadrado getting a start last week but the Colombia international is now a doubt, whilst the likes of Stefan Posch and Gianluca Scamacca remain sidelined for this weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere, Lookman; Retegui

Questionable: Juan Cuadrado (Injured)

Inter Milan Team News: Defensive injuries

Inter have a few key defensive injuries as they travel to the Gewiss Stadium this week as Stefan de Vrij is sidelined alongside both Matteo Darmian and Federico Dimarco. They are sidelined alongside Poland international duo Nicola Zalewski and Piotr Zielinski.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Josep Martinez; Pavard, Bisseck, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Lautaro Martinez, Thuram

Unavailable: De Vrij (Injured), Darmian (Injured), Dimarco (Injured), Zalewski (Injured), Zielinski (Injured), Carboni (Injured)

Atalanta vs Inter Milan Prediction

Atalanta have managed just five victories in their last 15 matches across all competitions with three 5-0 wins away from home as well as the aforementioned 4-0 defeat of Juventus. However, in that poor run of form, they have also been knocked out of both the UEFA Champions League and the Coppa Italia. They face an Inter side that, despite being in a strong position in all three competitions and doing well to defend the Italian title, haven’t been nearly as slick or as efficient as last season. On paper, both teams scoring may end up being a good bet but the reality for these two sides has been a frustrating disjointedness of late and with so much on the line, a low-scoring affair would appear a good bet.

Atalanta vs Inter Milan Tip: Under 3.5 goals
