Ashlyn Krueger is an impressive young hard court player and made full use of the surface in round one, utilising her strengths to good effect in taking down Renata Zarazua in straight sets. We touched upon Krueger’s powerful service game in our preview of her opening fixture in Miami and it was on full display, the 20-year-old reeling off eight aces and winning 71% of points on her first serve.

Also noticeable in the first round was Krueger winning four of eight break points, demonstrating impressive clutch play and further emphasising why she could give Elena Rybakina a real run for her money. The Kazakhstani has made significant progress in each of her recent WTA appearances, including semi-final finishes in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
