Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva Prediction

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka was pushed hard by Clara Tauson in the third round and had to overcome some testing conditions on Rod Laver Arena.

The wind caused issues for both players but Sabalenka raised her game at the important moments to come through 7-6, 6-2 against the Dane, whom she paid tribute to in the aftermath. The three-time Grand Slam champion will have some concerns about her serve though, as she was broken numerous times by Tauson and had to rely on her opponent dropping her own level on serve in order to break back.

17-year-old sensation Mirra Andreeva reached the round of 16 in Melbourne for the second year in a row after defeating Magdalena Frech in a topsy-turvy second-round contest. Andreeva recovered from losing the second set 6-1 to triumph 6-2 in the decider to set up a second meeting of the year with Sabalenka.

The pair faced off in the semi-finals of the Brisbane International at the beginning of January, Sabalenka winning 6-3, 6-2 on her way to the title, and she leads Andreeva 3-1 when it comes to career meetings with the youngster’s one win coming in the quarter-finals of the French Open last year.

Despite the fact she hasn’t dropped a set yet, Sabalenka has looked vulnerable at times in Melbourne and Andreeva possess the game to take advantage of any dips from her opponent. Whichever way this goes, a three-setter could be on the cards.
