Aryna Sabalenka delivered another dominant performance in the round of 16, dropping just three games for the second match in a row as she ended Sonay Kartal’s dream run in a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Save for one game dropped on serve, Sabalenka was rarely troubled by the Brit and is clearly growing in confidence after a couple of early exits recently in Qatar and Dubai.

Liudmila Samsonova needed just 66 minutes to eliminate Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16, bagelling the Italian sixth seed in the first set before taking the second 6-4. The Russian will now feature in the quarter-finals at the Indian Wells Open for the first time in her career.

All four of the pair’s career meetings have come on hard courts, with two wins apiece, but Sabalenka won the most recent encounter in Cincinnati last year and she looks in the mood to record another straight-sets win.
