Last year’s runner-up Arthur Fils returns to the Next Gen ATP Tour Finals aiming to go one better this year as the talented Frenchman will be strongly favoured to go all the way this time around.

The 20-year-old was outstanding in 2024 on the ATP Tour as he won two ATP 500 events in Hamburg and Tokyo. Beating local favourite Alexander Zverev in the final in Hamburg was particularly impressive and Fils’ mentality was the standout feature that really made him stand out.

He is understandably the top seed at this event as he comes in ranked number 20 in the world and he meets Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca in this opening match.

At just 18-years-old, Fonseca looks a real talent and he enjoyed a number of events on the ATP Tour as he went 7-7. He comes into this event ranked 145 in the world and will be hoping to make further moves up the rankings in 2025.

Fonseca actually beat Fils last season in Rio on clay in what was their only meeting on the ATP Tour. This will be a totally different assignment on a hard court and Fils should have the quality to ease to victory here.
