Arsenal Preview: Famous European night
Arsenal produced a famous performance and result in midweek as the Gunners hammered Real Madrid by three goals to nil at the Emirates Stadium in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie courtesy of a Declan Rice brace of free-kicks.
Those stunning free-kicks have given the Gunners a cushion ahead of the second-leg against Real Madrid in the coming week. They begin the Premier League match day now sitting 11 points adrift of Liverpool due to a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park at the weekend.
Brentford Preview: Steady Bees
Brentford come into this one on the back of a goalless draw against Chelsea in a west London derby in their most recent outing at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend, meaning they have managed one victory, two draws and two defeats in their last five matches.
The Bees have been unable to properly assert themselves in a genuinely congested and entertaining push for the top eight or even nine and the European spots in the Premier League as they sit in the bottom-half of the table ahead of this weekend.
Arsenal Team News: Potential rest and rotation
England international duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have both been passed fit after sustaining knocks against Real Madrid in midweek but they could both be rested anyway ahead of the second-leg in the Spanish capital. There has been no update on the fitness of cramp-suffering Jurrien Timber.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Jorginho, Merino; Nwaneri, Trossard, Sterling
Unavailable: Tomiyasu (Injured), Gabriel (Injured), Calafiori (Injured), Havertz (Injured), Jesus (Injured)
Questionable: Timber (Fitness)
Brentford Team News: Can go unchanged
In his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip across the capital city, Thomas Frank has confirmed that there are no fresh injury concerns for the Bees so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this one. Both Aaron Hickey and Gustabo Nunes played for the U21s a week ago and are continuing to regain their fitness levels.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Flekken; Ajer, Collins, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Yamolyuk; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa
Unavailable: Dasilva (Injured), Carvalho (Injured), Thiago (Injured)
Questionable: Hickey (Fitness), Nunes (Fitness)
Arsenal vs Brentford Prediction
Arsenal are expected to make quite a few changes for this one ahead of their season defining clash at the Bernabeu this week. They have been effective at times this season but a lack of fluency in open play has been an issue and that is unlikely to be helped by a rotated side now facing a Brentford team that are set up to pick teams off and exploit the weaknesses of their opposition in transition. Brentford will fancy themselves to score at least once at the Emirates Stadium, whilst Arsenal may throw the kitchen sink at one stage in a game that could finally properly end the title race.
