We've analysed each of the eight seeds at this year's BetVictor World Cup Of Darts and assessed their chances of success at the team event. Here we look at #6 seeds Northern Ireland:

  • Northern Ireland have twice been World Cup semi-finalists. In 2014, Brendan Dolan and Mickey Mansell lost to the Netherlands in the last four and two years later Dolan and Daryl Gurney were defeated by England at the same stage of the tournament.
  • This is the fourth consecutive year that Gurney and Dolan have teamed up for Northern Ireland. Brendan Dolan is one of the World Cup ever-presents having represented Northern Ireland every year since the tournament began in 2010.
  • The duo have lost to Germany in each of the last two years at the World Cup – with a first round defeat in 2017 followed by a second round defeat in 2018.

THE VERDICT

Northern Ireland’s number one Daryl Gurney comes into the World Cup having recently made the play-offs of the Premier League and will be in a confident mood as he aims to help Northern Ireland go deep into the tournament. Brendan Dolan is not playing at the same level as he was a few years ago when he was winning PDC titles but he is still not to be underestimated as he showed at the World Championship when he reached the quarter-finals. Northern Ireland should go further than the second round on this occasion but may struggle to overcome Wales in the last eight.
