THE TEAM NEWS
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD
Coach: Tom Moody
Captain: Kane Williamson
- After suffering defeat in their opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad have bounced back in style with three consecutive victories and the last two wins have come without skipper Kane Williamson who continues to struggle with his shoulder problem.
- They will be extremely cautious with Williamson so he may not be risked here once again which is not a major issue given how well the team is doing in his absence, especially with the bat as they continue to shine.
- Their bowlers played a key role in the win in Delhi against the Capitals on Thursday, but there are some question marks creeping in over their middle order with the bat as Warner and Bairstow have masked the poor form of Pandey and Hooda so they will be keen to improve here in what could be an unchanged team.
MUMBAI INDIANS
Coach: Mahela Jayawardene
Captain: Rohit Sharma
- Mumbai Indians remain wildly inconsistent having won two and lost two of their opening four matches, but they come off their best all-round display of the tournament so far as they beat Chennai Super Kings by 37 runs last time out on Wednesday.
- The inclusion of Jason Behrendorff proved instrumental in the win over the Super Kings as he took a wicket in his very first over and looked in superb form which took the pressure off Malinga and Bumrah and the trio form arguably the best pace attack in the tournament.
- The other major plus point from that win was the big hitting from the middle order and brothers Hardik and Krunal Pandya along with the underfire Kieron Pollard were in sensational form and set the platform for the victory and there is every chance the team is unchanged for this one.
THE PREDICTION
This match has all the hallmarks of an absolute classic between two of the best teams in the tournament on paper. Mumbai’s bowling attack is looking exceptional right now and they will pose a major test for the star opening partnership for the Sunrisers of Bairstow and Warner. This match could well be decided by which of the lesser known players can step up and contribute. It should be a high scoring game in theory based on the pitch in Hyderabad, but with high quality bowling units on both teams, the depth of batting could be key and Mumbai could just have the edge in that. A marginal preference for them but this really is a game that could go either way and be decided in one or two crucial moments.
