THE TEAM NEWS

KINGS XI PUNJAB

Coach: Mike Hesson

Captain: Ravi Ashwin

  • Kings XI Punjab sit in the cluster of teams with six points in the IPL ladder but they are coming off a disappointing loss to Chennai Super Kings on Saturday where they fell 22 runs short of the home side’s 160/3 so they will look to bounce back at home.

  • KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan both hit half centuries but their timing and judgement of the run chase was a little misguided as they left it too late to try and hit big after being in a reasonable position in the chase needing 71 off the remaining 49 balls.

  • Andrew Tye returned to the side for that match but endured another difficult match in taking 0/38, bringing his overall figures to 2/125 in three matches, so he could drop out of the team if they decide to bring Mujeeb Ur Rahman back into the side for this one.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad also sit with six points from their opening five games and come off a defeat too as they went down in disappointing fashion at home to Mumbai Indians, who set a total of 136/7 and then bowled the Sunrisers out for just 96.

  • Their middle order once again was fragile and it may lead to them finding a way to bring fit-again skipper Kane Williamson back into the side but that would mean either Mohammad Nabi or Rashid Khan dropping out, with Bairstow and Warner seemingly untouchable right now.

  • Mohammad Nabi has made a positive impact since coming into the side with the ball and the overall bowling display against Mumbai was excellent once again so that could lead to them largely going unchanged for this one.

THE PREDICTION

It will be interesting to see how this pitch plays as Sunrisers are so strong in so many facets of the game. On paper, they have the edge in batting and bowling though Kings XI have the edge in batting depth and that could be key if early wickets can be taken, as was seen in the Sunrisers last match against Mumbai Indians. Kings XI are far from a complete team, but they do have home advantage. They won this fixture last season in Mohali, but it is the only win against the Sunrisers in their last eight and it just feels like the Sunrisers have the edge in most departments here.
