THE TEAM NEWS
DELHI CAPITALS
Coach: Ricky Ponting
Captain: Shreyas Iyer
- Delhi Capitals are coming off a hugely disappointing defeat to Kings XI Punjab as they lost their last seven wickets for just eight runs to collapse and lose by 14 runs in a match they looked certain to win for most of the game.
- Despite fielding a young side, their experienced players like Dhawan, Ingram and Morris were as guilty as any of them for throwing away the excellent position, and it will be a major test of their character to bounce back from that shocking loss.
- Ricky Ponting will be contemplating changes coming into this game with Hanuma Vihari and Avesh Khan both likely to drop out of the side and Rahul Tewatia and Amit Mishra potentially replacing them for the visit of the Sunrisers.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD
Coach: Tom Moody
Captain: Kane Williamson
- Sunrisers Hyderabad are coming off the biggest victory of IPL 2019 so far as they hammered Royal Challengers Bangalore by 118 runs thanks in large to David Warner and Jonny Bairstow’s record opening stand of 185 and followed by Mohammad Nabi’s stunning 4/11.
- Kane Williamson’s shoulder injury continues to be a major concern for him, the Sunrisers and the New Zealand ODI selectors who are worried about his participation in the World Cup after he re-injured it in the second game against Rajasthan Royals and there is every chance he misses out once again with Bhuvneshwar Kumar deputising as skipper.
- Williamson’s likely absence will mean Mohammad Nabi will keep his place which is more than deserved following his 4/11 and there is every chance that the Sunrisers will be unchanged for this match in Delhi versus the Capitals.
THE PREDICTION
The Capitals will likely still be reeling from their shocking loss to Kings XI Punjab on Monday and how they bounce back from that will be key to their hopes here. They are facing a Sunrisers team that are on fire right now with the best opening partnership in the tournament with Warner and Bairstow breaking records. Even without Kane Williamson they look strong, and their bowling unit remains one of the best in the tournament which does not bode well for a fragile Capitals batting line-up. The Capitals may bounce back, but it is easier to have far more confidence in the consistent and solid Hyderabad line-up.
