THE TEAM NEWS

DELHI CAPITALS

Coach: Ricky Ponting

Captain: Shreyas Iyer

  • Delhi got their IPL 2019 campaign off to a stunning start as they blasted 213/6 against Mumbai Indians on Sunday to help them win by 37 runs in their first match since changing their name from the Daredevils to the Capitals.

  • Rishabh Pant was the star of the show as he smashed an incredible knock of 78 from 27 balls and his scoring came against national team stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, as he looks capable of repeating last year’s superb performances and highlights the Capitals' batting strength.

  • Changes for this game appear unlikely after such a good performance although they may decide to bring Sandeep Lamichhane into the side for Trent Boult who proved somewhat expensive in that match.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: MS Dhoni

  • Chennai Super Kings got their IPL title defence off to an excellent start in a crazy opening match against Royal Challengers where they bowled a star-studded RCB batting line-up out for a paltry 70 on what was an incredibly slow pitch in Chennai.

  • They will relish playing on a better track here which will suit their batsmen but may see them change their line-up rather than start with both Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir despite their heroics on Saturday, and one of those – Harbhajan most likely – will surely make way for an extra batsmen with Faf du Plessis expected to start here.

  • Chennai have beaten Delhi in six of their eight previous meetings but they have lost two of the last three so they will be keen to set a marker down here and they know they face a tough test against the Capitals.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams won their opening matches but in completely different ways with Delhi starring with the bat and Chennai winning thanks to an outstanding spin bowling display against RCB. This match will be a big test for both of the teams’ credentials and will feature some great match-ups between batsmen and bowlers. Chennai’s greater experience may just give them the edge here but it is difficult to rule the Capitals out especially if they perform anywhere close to how they played on Sunday with the bat.
