THE PLAYERS
STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
- Stefanos Tsitsipas made light work of Germany’s Maximilian Marterer (6-2, 6-2, 7-6) to set-up this second-round tie with Bolivian Hugo Dellien.
- Rafael Nadal defeated Tsitsipas for the second time in a semi-finals this year at the Italian Open but the Greek youngster is up to sixth in the world and is clearly a future Grand Slam winner.
- The 20-year-old is making his third appearance at Roland-Garros and will improve to his best showing if he reaches the third round having met clay-specialist Dominic Thiem in the second round last year.
HUGO DELLIEN
- Hugo Dellien won five games in a row as he eased past Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the first round of Roland-Garros to set-up a first meeting with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
- Dellien has no doubt had the best year of his career with a Challenger Tour win in Chile back in March as well as three ATP Tour quarter-finals.
- The Bolivian is on a meteoric personal journey after quitting the professional game three years ago and will make history for his country if he can progress to the third round of a Grand Slam.
THE PREDICTION
Hugo Dellien became the first Bolivian to reach the second round of Roland-Garros for over 30 years and every step he takes this year is his best yet in his career. However, it would take a small miracle to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Greek’s current form, as the youngster has shown a talent for clay courts soon after announcing himself on the hard courts of the Australian Open. Who knows how good Dellien can be if he stays determined, but certainly not as good as Tsitsipas.
