THE PLAYERS
JUAN IGNACIO LONDERO
- Juan Ignacio Londero has been one of the surprise packages of Roland-Garros so far having beaten 15th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round in straight sets before dispatching home favourite Richard Gasquet in four.
- The Argentine is 12-8 for 2019 and had some excellent success in South America earlier this year where he won the Cordoba Open at home in Argentina against Guido Pella.
- Londero has never progressed from qualifying at Roland-Garros in three attempts at the age of 25 and is in fact playing in his first Grand Slam proper.
CORENTIN MOUTET
- Corentin Moutet will face another surprise third-round contender in Juan Ignacio Londero after his four-set victory over 19th seed Guido Pella on Tuesday.
- Moutet represents a different test to most players on the circuit as a 5”9 left-hander. He beat Ivo Karlovic in the first round of last year's Roland-Garros which tells you all you need to know, before losing to David Goffin in the second.
- The Frenchman won the Chennai Open Challenger event back in February and has been in and around the latter stages at a few others but he will relish playing at this level in front of a home crowd.
THE PREDICTION
It is a shame Juan Ignacio Londero and Corentin Moutet will face each other in the third round of Roland-Garros seeing as neither player deserves to have their best ever efforts cut short, but it does guarantee one surprise round of 16 contender come the close of play. Both players defeated a player significantly better than them (on paper) in Guido Pella and Richard Gasquet to reach this point and will play without fear on the biggest pay days of their careers. Moutet has the home crowd on his side, and this might just swing it the Frenchman’s way in a match it seems a shame to attempt prediction.
