FIFA 19 – FUT Champions Cup March Singapore Preview

THE FACTS

When? March 8th – March 10th

What channel is it on? FUT Champions Cup Singapore will be shown in eight countries across South Asia on the eGG Network.

THE LOWDOWN

Tournament Format and Schedule

FUT Champions Cup Singapore will be contested by 32 players on the PlayStation 4 and a further 32 players on the Xbox One. These 64 players will all compete in a Swiss-style single group stage format that leads into a knockout bracket. Of the 32 players from each console, half of them will progress from the group stages into the round of 16, from which they will contest a single elimination bracket that will leave two players remaining from each console. These two players will compete against each other in the console finals with the two winners facing off in the grand final. The final will be a two-legged affair with one game played on each console.

Friday 8th March – Swiss-style group stages

Saturday 9th March – Completion of group stages. Round of 16 & quarter-finals

Sunday 10th March – Semi-finals, console finals & grand final

Are there rules regarding what teams/players can be used for the tournament?

Each game will be played in the FIFA Ultimate Team mode, with each player free to use their own UT in the competition.

Who will be competing in the tournament?

A total of 64 players around the globe have qualified for the FUT Champions Cup Singapore through the official FIFA Global Series online qualification tournament which took place back in January. You can find a complete list of players who will be appearing in Bucharest in the two graphics below.

What prizes are up for grabs?

A cash pool of $100,000 is on offer at the FUT Champions Cup Singapore that sees the winner take home a total of $50,000, but perhaps even more importantly for the competing players are FIFA Global Series Points, with more points up for the grabs the higher you place at the tournament. These points will see them rise up the FIFA Global Series Points leaderboard for their respective console. At the end of the season, the top 16 ranked players from each console according to the Global Series Points leaderboard will qualify for the 2019 FIFA eWorld Cup. The winners of their respective console will each win a total of 1,500 Global Series Points.

THE PLAYERS

The FUT Champions Cup Singapore is the fifth FUT Champions Cup tournament of the FIFA 19 season and the first FUT Champions Cup event to take place in Singapore. The first player we’re looking is the 17-year-old wonderkid who secured his second FUT Champions Cup success of the season in Atlanta. This triumph gave F2Tekkz his third major trophy of the season and fourth title so far on FIFA 19 to go with his maiden success at the FUT Champions Cup in Barcelona back on FIFA 18.

Not only that, he even found time to fly straight to Liverpool following the tournament and win the chance to represent the Reds in the ePremier League coming up at the end of March. With his place at the FIFA eWorld Cup all but secure, this hasn’t stopped the English sensation from dropping his standards as he continues to set the standard as the best player FIFA eSports has to offer.

Next in our spotlight is a player we’ve featured consistently in our recent FIFA 19 tournament previews, as we believe he’s the best player on the game currently without a title to his name this year. Megabit of Werder Bremen was frustrated again at the ELEAGUE FUT Champions Cup, as the imperious F2Tekkz derailed his quest for a first FIFA 19 major of the season. But it was another strong outing for the German who is showing the form that saw him win the Xbox One Global Series Playoffs back on FIFA 18. Playing on Xbox makes it very difficult for him to advance through to the Grand Final with Tekkz - among others - standing in his way, but MegaBit is one of the few players with the ability to pull through on the day.

One German currently just behind MegaBit on the Xbox One Global Series Points leaderboard is NRaseck. Unlike Megabit, we have yet to feature the Rogue eSports player in our previews until now, but Raseck has made it impossible to ignore him as a number of strong performances have seen him quietly rise up the leaderboard and pose a threat to the current top three. Success in Singapore would see NRaseck leapfrog MegaBit and establish himself as the top German player on FIFA 19 right now.

Moving to the PlayStation 4 side of the bracket and we’re turning our attention to a Portuguese player who had a breakthrough performance at the ELEAGUE FUT Champions Cup. Sporting Lisbon’s RastaArtur made it all the way to the semi-finals of the PS4 bracket before being defeated by the number one ranked PS4 player in the world - Nicolas99fc. It was a great performance from the four-time FPF eSports champion who has taken his new found good form and ran with it, also qualifying for April’s FUT Champions Cup and most recently the upcoming eChampions League after winning six of his seven qualifying games. With his confidence sky high, could another high placement be on the cards in Singapore?

THE PREDICTION

At this point in time, any prediction of a FIFA 19 offline tournament that doesn’t pick F2Tekkz to lift the trophy is probably going to be scoffed at. The 17-year-old is in the form of his life and looks simply unstoppable every time he picks up a controller. The only sticking point for him this weekend will surely be fatigue. Having played in Atlanta, competed in (and won) the Liverpool ePremier League Xbox One qualifier and qualified for the eChampions League live event all in the space of just two weeks, you have to question how much he has left in the tank with another long flight across the world ahead for him. But while he continues to beat all who attempt to stop me, we can’t look beyond him again this weekend.
