THE TEAM NEWS

CATALANS DRAGONS

Head Coach: Steve McNamara

Squad: Baitieri, Bird, Bousquet, Casty, Da Costa, Edwards, Garcia, Gigot, Jullien, Kasiano, Langi, Mead, McIlorum, Moa, Simon, Tierney, Whitley, Wiliame, Yaha

Unavailable: Jodie Broughton, Matty Smith, Mickael Goudemand, Sam Tomkins

  • Catalans produced a lacklustre first half before dominating the second as they blew League 1 side Doncaster away in the Challenge Cup to continue their good run of form which has seen them win four of the last five matches in all competitions.

  • The Dragons are sweating on the fitness of star man Sam Tomkins after he suffered a back injury last week but he looks set to miss out here after being omitted from the 19-man squad.

  • Catalans are almost back to full strength with just a handful of players now missing and have been boosted in recent games by the return of long-term absentee Michael McIlorum but look light in the halves this week with Matty Smith still out.

WIGAN WARRIORS

Head Coach: Adrian Lam

Squad: Bullock, Burgess, Clubb, Escaré, Flower, Gildart, Greenwood, Hankinson, Hardaker, Isa, Leuluai, Marshall, Navarrete, O’Loughlin, Powell, Sarginson, Smithies, Tautai, Williams

Unavailable: Liam Farrell, Gabe Hamlin, Dom Manfredi, Jarrod Sammut, Tom Davies

  • Wigan produced their best display of the season but fell short against Warrington in their superb Challenge Cup encounter last week and will now look to back that up as they travel to Barcelona to face Catalans.

  • The Warriors head to Barcelona with a strong-looking squad with them now missing the services of just a handful of first-team players but could have Liam Farrell and Jarrod Sammut back within the next couple of weeks.

  • Wigan head coach Adrian Lam makes just one change to the 19-man squad he selected for last week’s Cup game with Jake Shorrocks dropping out and is replaced by Morgan Escaré although he is unlikely to feature.

THE PREDICTION

Catalans were embarrassed the last time they played Wigan but have turned their form around since then, winning five of their last seven in all competitions since that defeat and now travel to the Camp Nou where they will host the Warriors in this historic match. Wigan come into this on the back of three consecutive league wins but this will pose a difficult challenge for them to make it four although the likely absence of Sam Tomkins could be crucial. The Dragons will rely on Tony Gigot to pull the strings and if he plays well, it should be enough for Catalans to claim the win.
