THE TEAM NEWS

LEICESTERSHIRE

Coach: Paul Nixon

Captain: Colin Ackermann

  • The end of the Royal London One-Day Cup cannot come soon enough for Leicestershire as they endured another humiliating defeat, this time at the hands of Lancashire who demolished them by nine wickets at Old Trafford.

  • Leicestershire collapsed to 80 all out with only two players managing to hit double-figures with Lancashire comfortably chasing their total with the loss of just one wicket as the Foxes fell to their fifth defeat in six matches.

  • Leicestershire faced Pakistan in a T20 match on Wednesday with Ben Mike impressing with both bat and ball and the 20-year-old will be hoping his performance is enough to retain his place in the 50-over side, while Paul Horton has stepped down as captain so Colin Ackermann will lead them here.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE

Coach: David Ripley

Captain: Alex Wakely

  • Northamptonshire were within touching distance of just their second win of this year’s competition but a late Yorkshire rally saw the Vikings collect the win and ensure that the Steelbacks cannot progress to the next stage.

  • Despite scoring an impressive 351, the rain came and meant Yorkshire were set a revised target of 175 from 25 overs which they achieved with just two balls remaining to condemn Northants to another loss.

  • 21-year-old Ricardo Vasconcelos scored his maiden list A century and he will be looking to build on that effort but may be joined by a couple of new faces in the side with David Ripley considering making some changes in the light of his side being unable to progress.

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these teams can qualify for the knockout stages but will be keen to end the competition on a high. Currently occupying the bottom two spots in the group, this represents a good chance for one side to move up the table and avoid finishing in last place. That unwanted honour may fallen upon Leicestershire whose performances have been well short of what is needed in their last two matches with Northamptonshire able to capitalise and pick up just their second win of the competition.
