THE TEAM NEWS
PENRITH PANTHERS
Head Coach: Ivan Cleary
Starting 13: Edwards, Mansour, Yeo, Naden, To’o, Luai, Maloney, Tamou, Katoa, Campbell-Gillard, Kikau, Winterstein, Fisher-Harris – Interchanges: Kenny, Fuimaono, Leota, Grant – Reserves: Sele, Ellis, Aekins, Martin
Unavailable: Tyrone May, Malakai Watene-Zelezniak, Dean Whare, Waqa Blake, Nathan Cleary
- Penrith received a huge shot in the arm as they won just their third game of the season with a scrappy win over Parramatta and will hope that can be the catalyst to kick-start their campaign.
- The Panthers will have to do without Nathan Cleary this week after the halfback was selected in the Blues squad for State of Origin but his place is taken by James Maloney after he served a one-match ban.
- Dean Whare and Waqa Blake both picked up injuries last week to leave Penrith short in the centres so Isaah Yeo will slot in to the unfamiliar position after he recovered from a knock whilst Brent Naden also comes in to make his debut.
MANLY-WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES
Head Coach: Des Hasler
Starting 13: Elliot, Taufua, Walker, Garrick, Miski, Cust, Elgey, Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Taupau, Thompson, Sironen, Waddell – Interchanges: Fainu, Gosiewski, Boyle, Paseka – Reserves: Dockar-Clay, Anderson, Olakau’atu, Perrett
Unavailable: Albert Hopoate, Tom Trbojevic, Daly Cherry-Evans, Moses Suli, Toafofoa Sipley, Lachlan Croker, Brad Parker, Jake Trbojevic
- Manly put in their worst performance of the season as they went down to a hugely disappointing defeat at home to Gold Coast and will be hoping they can bounce back against Penrith without the presence of another star player and leader from their side.
- Jake Trbojevic has been selected in the New South Wales team for the first State of Origin game so he will be missing whilst Daly Cherry-Evans has joined up with the Queensland camp.
- Brad Parker will miss some significant game-time as the Sea Eagles outside back suffered a broken jaw in the loss to the Titans with Reuben Garrick reverting to centre and Abbas Miski coming onto the wing whilst Taniela Paseka is given a chance from the bench.
THE PREDICTION
Manly were awful last week but travel to a Penrith side that still failed to impress despite just their third win of the season over Parramatta in what was a low-quality contest. Although James Maloney will slot straight back in here, the loss of Nathan Cleary is huge. Manly will also be missing some big talent and having struggled last week, they may be in for a tough night again. This could be difficult watch with errors aplenty from two under-strength teams but Manly can edge this gritty affair.
