THE TEAM NEWS
NEW YORK METS
- The Mets are coming off a solid 14-4 win over the Minnesota Twins last time out, but their record hasn’t been very good in recent weeks. They’ve gone 2-3 in their last five games and have also posted a 5-5 mark in their last ten outings.
- Pete Alonso has been the Mets’ biggest star over the course of the 2019 season thanks to an impressive tally of 31 home runs and 71 RBI, and he homered in Wednesday’s match against the Twins. Alonso also owns an impressive .978 OPS mark.
- New York have some notable injuries, though. Their IL includes players such as star OF Yoenis Cespedes, OF Brandon Nimmo, 2B Jed Lowrie and P Zack Wheeler.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
- The Giants secured a solid 11-8 win over the Colorado Rockies in their previous game, improving their current record to 47-49. They have been extremely hot of late, as they swept a four-game series against the Rockies and have won their last five games. Over their last ten games, they have delivered an 8-2 mark, so they clearly look like a team on the rise.
- One player to watch for the Giants is SS Brandon Crawford, who has been on a tear since the All-Star Break after hitting for .400 (10-for-25) with four home runs and 12 RBI. He didn’t start during Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies to give him some much-needed rest, although he struck out on a pitch-hitting appearance.
- The Giants do not have any notable injuries aside from 3B Evan Longoria, while it’s worth mentioning that both P Johnny Cueto and P Nick Vincent are currently in the IL-60.
THE PREDICTION
The Giants are on a roll and they have been quite dominant of late, scoring at least eight runs in three of their last four wins while allowing three or fewer in three of those games as well. The Mets are playing well, but the Giants are on a five-game winning run. San Francisco will have the home-field advantage and that will be enough to give them the win here.
