THE TEAM NEWS

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

  • Trinidad and Tobago suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the USA in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup as their hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals were unceremoniously ended.
  • The United States were able to run out 6-0 winners in the extremely one-sided game which leaves Trinidad with no goals to their name from their two matches so far whilst they have now conceded eight.
  • It was a poor collapse by Trinidad who were only trailing by a single goal with 25 minutes left but crumbled under the pressure late on and with only pride on the line, Trinidad coach Dennis Lawrence may look to change his side up for this final game.

GUYANA

  • Guyana conceded four goals for the second game in succession as their attempt to get out of Group D in the Gold Cup was halted by Panama with elimination now confirmed following no wins from either of their two games.
  • Two goals from the spot from Neil Danns could not prevent Guyana from crashing out of the competition with Panama taking a 2-1 lead into the break before sealing the 4-2 win in the second half.
  • After only making two changes to their starting line-up from the team that appeared against the United States in their first game, Guyana may look to rotate and give some game-time to their fringe players in this final game.

THE PREDICTION

Both Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana have struggled in this year’s Gold Cup and will be exiting the competition after this final group game. They have conceded 16 goals between them with just two goals scored by either side, both coming from the spot in Guyana’s last game. With nothing to play for but pride, that might see the teams open up as they look for their first point of the tournament but Trinidad can edge the win.
