THE TEAM NEWS
EGYPT
- Egypt progressed to the last 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a 100% record following a victory over Uganda which saw them top Group A with the hosts looking like they will be real contenders for the title.
- The Egyptians were comfortable victors thanks to two first half goals; the first a Mohamed Salah free-kick before Ahmed Elmohamady doubled his side’s lead to secure their place as group winners.
- Having not conceded a goal in the group stage and winning all three games, Egypt progressed to the knockout stages with one of the best records in the tournament and will have midfielder Amr Warda available for selection once again after his suspension was reduced by the Egyptian FA.
SOUTH AFRICA
- South Africa lost their last group game at the Africa Cup of Nations but the result proved to be insignificant as they still managed to progress to the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed sides by the smallest of margins.
- They looked set to earn a draw against Morocco but having been under pressure for much of the game, they finally succumbed to the pressure and the Moroccans were able to snatch the win in the final moments to give them a nervous wait to see if they would progress.
- Luckily for the South Africans, no other side won who could have qualified ahead of them and after receiving this reprieve, they will need to be more attack-minded whilst the goalkeeping shirt is still up for grabs between Ronwen Williams and Darren Keet.
THE PREDICTION
Egypt look intent on going all the way in the Africa Cup of Nations as the hosts ominously progressed into the last 16 with a perfect record. They won all three of their group games and kept a clean sheet in all three, too. They face South Africa here who managed to sneak into the knockout stages by the skin of their teeth and with Egypt possessing the form and confidence, they should have too much for the South Africans.
