THE TEAM NEWS
EGYPT
- Egypt were understandably nervous as they kicked off the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but the hosts handled the pressure well enough to ensure they claimed the three points from their opening game.
- Mahmoud Trezeguet’s goal just before half-time was all that Egypt needed as they were made to work hard to break down a stubborn Zimbabwe side but were never really in danger of conceding.
- Egypt will kick-on from their first outing and be better for the experience with eyes firmly on the likes of Mo Salah and Marwan Mohsen as they attempt to find their attacking rhythm against DR Congo.
DR CONGO
- DR Congo suffered a shock defeat to open their Africa Cup of Nations campaign as they went down to Uganda to leave their hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals in serious doubt with a game against Egypt next up.
- A second consecutive loss will make it almost impossible for Congo to advance out of Group A following their 2-0 reverse to the Ugandans after they put in an extremely poor performance.
- Following their terrible showing, they may have to make changes to their line-up with Jonathan Bolingi doing well when he came on against Uganda and he could be one of several changes.
THE PREDICTION
Egypt overcame their opening night nerves to see of a stubborn Zimbabwe side to claim the spoils in their Group A encounter that kicked off the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. They can now look to progress to the quarter-finals with a win over DR Congo who were on the end of a shock opening defeat. They lost to Uganda in a big upset and now have it all to do if they want to get out of the group but Egypt should have too much class for them and can make home advantage count.
