Two power players meet in the US Open final on Saturday but that is where the similarities end as six-time winner Williams is seeking a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title whilst her 20-year-old Japanese opponent is appearing in her first major final.

Williams is usually able to blast her rivals off the court but that is not likely to be the case against Osaka, who has formidable power herself and who has played without fear throughout the last fortnight in Flushing Meadows. The two met earlier this year in Miami and it was Osaka who dominated that match, and whilst there may be one or two nerves in what will be the biggest match of her career, she could have enough to win her first slam by overcoming her idol in three sets.
