THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

Coach: Adam Voges

Captain: Ashton Turner

  • Perth Scorchers managed to pick up just their second win in seven matches last time out as they restricted Melbourne Stars to 146/6 and then comfortably chased down that total with 2.2 overs to spare.

  • Skipper Ashton Turner was called up to the Australia squad when Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the India match through illness but Turner was ultimately not selected and he was released to rejoin the Scorchers’ squad for this key match.

  • The bowling unit looked strong last time out even without Behrendorff as Andrw Tye picked up 4/18 while the biggest bonus was the return to form of Cameron Bancroft who hit a half century opening the innings, and they come off the team’s best batting performance of the tournament so far which will give confidence.

SYDNEY SIXERS

Coach: Greg Shipperd

Captain: Moises Henriques

  • The Sixers played well last time out to beat Adelaide Strikers by six wickets so they sit in a top four position coming into Saturday’s round of matches and they will be keen to consolidate that with a win here.

  • Joe Denly has departed for England duty now in the West Indies so the Sixers have signed fellow Englishman James Vince to join the team after he had a spell playing in New Zealand with the Auckland Aces, and he comes straight into the squad for this match.

  • Vince is likely to come in as a straight swap for Denly although they are less likely to use Vince as a part-time bowling option which limits their options to a degree, and that is likely to be the only change to the starting line-up.

THE PREDICTION

The Scorchers know they have little margin for error right now as they look to build on their two victories. They have a strong record against the Sixers recently which will give them confidence coming into this match. On paper, they have the greater quality in their ranks but the Sixers have been overperforming to date and are confident themselves. All the urgency is with the hosts who will expect to get the win, and with their batsmen looking to hit form now, they are marginally favoured.
