THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

Coach: Adam Voges

Captain: Ashton Turner

  • The Scorchers are in the unfamiliar position of being bottom of the BBL08 ladder after having lost both matches played so far against Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers, so there is pressure on them to get a win here against the Strikers.

  • They will be heartened by the fact that they have won their last three matches against the Strikers but they desperately need to improve their form with the bat having struggled in both of their matches so far scoring just 103 and 147 though they are unlikely to overreact and making any rash changes to the team.

  • The pressure is on the top order to click into gear as the likes of Whiteman, Klinger and Willey need to contribute more, while the Scorchers may consider dropping Willey down the order and edging the likes of Turner and Cartwright further up.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • It has been a mixed start for the Strikers having won their first match against the Brisbane Heat but they come off a defeat to Melbourne Renegades who fought back from the difficult position of 80/5 to reach 176/5 thanks to Nabi’s and Christian’s heroics.

  • They missed Peter Siddle last time out and his economical bowling and Billy Stanlake proved very expensive once again so he has now gone for 94 in his eight overs which is not supporting Rashid Khan sufficiently well enough despite his superb start to the tournament once again.

  • Despite the loss last time out, the Strikers will not make any kneejerk decisions in terms of team selection but the likes of Neser, Laughlin and Stanlake need to improve their performances, while Valente may have done enough to keep his place for this one.

THE PREDICTION

The Scorchers are under pressure to bounce back from two consecutive defeats and get their BBL08 kick-started after a poor start by their lofty standards. Their batting has struggled badly so far and unless their top order start to click into gear, they will continue to struggle. They may have an opportunity here against a talented but expensive Strikers’ pace attack. That said, if they lose early wickets, and then have to face Rashid Khan, they will likely be in serious trouble once again. The Strikers look to have the better balance in their team with their batsmen in better form so that gives them the edge, unless the Scorchers can regain some form fast against a team whom they have won their last three matches.
