THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE HEAT

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Chris Lynn

  • Brisbane Heat start 2019 desperate for a win as they come into their third match of BBL08 as the only team not to have won a game so far so the pressure is on for them to get a win at home here and kick-start their campaign finally.

  • They have made a couple of changes to their squad for this match as batsmen Alex Ross comes in while pace bowler James Pattinson returns after missing the last game due to personal reasons so the Heat’s selectors will be hoping the duo can hit the ground running as Matthew Kuhnemann and Mark Steketee make way.

  • The team is so heavily weighted to the batting order that they really have to start hitting some bigger scores as they have only managed 144 and 146 so far and unless Lynn and McCullum start scoring big, their bowlers are just not good enough to defend below-par scores.

SYDNEY SIXERS

Coach: Greg Shipperd

Captain: Moises Henriques

  • The Sixers have won two and lost two in their opening four matches of BBL08 and they will have taken plenty of confidence from their win last time out against a previously unbeaten Melbourne Renegades team as they restricted them to just 99/9 from 20 overs chasing the Sixers’ 132/7.

  • They make one change to the squad as Greg West returns to the squad in place of Lloyd Pope while Ben Manenti understandably keeps his place after his man-of-the match display on his debut against the Renegades with 2/13 from his four overs.

  • Tom Curran continues to be the star of the show for the Sixers with both bat and ball and there is a chance that he moves up to batting at number six based on his form so far, especially as the top order batting has been somewhat fragile so far and is their clear weakness.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat continue to struggle badly as their lop-sided team is unable to click into gear. There is so much reliance on the bash brothers Lynn and McCullum hitting big, and if they are unable to do so, the lack of quality throughout the team is seriously exposed. The Sixers are not exactly firing themselves and can be exposed with their batting especially somewhat fragile at the top. This could be one game where the Heat finally get going and just overpower the Sixers who will struggle to come close to matching them with the bat if one of the Heat’s batsmen can finally get going.
