THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • After a mixed start to BBL08 for the Strikers, they have shown their class in the last two matches having beaten Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades by setting a solid total and their bowlers holding the opposition well below the targets.

  • Rashid Khan has confirmed that he will remain in Australia despite the death of his father which is a major boost to the team, and he also rejected the opportunity to play in the Bangladesh Premier League in order to get more experience playing in Australia which will host the T20 World Cup in 2020.

  • They have made one change to the squad for this match as they welcome back Peter Siddle which is a major boost and that has allowed them to rest Ben Laughlin which is important as they will soon lose more of their pace bowlers to international duty and Laughlin will be even more important at that stage.

SYDNEY SIXERS

Coach: Greg Shipperd

Captain: Moises Henriques

  • The Sixers are coming off a loss to leaders Hobart Hurricanes but they took the most impressive team in the tournament to the penultimate ball so their confidence will not be dented by that especially after winning their previous two matches.

  • They make just one change to their squad as Lloyd Pope rotates back in for Greg West but he is unlikely to make the eleven which will almost certainly be unchanged based on how well they have been playing in recent games.

  • The opening partnership continues to be a weakness for them and the middle order in Hughes, Henriques and Silk continues to save them time and again so they desperately need Denly and Avendano to find some form right now.

THE PREDICTION

A fascinating match in store between two teams who have had largely positive campaigns in the first half of the BBL08 group phase. The Strikers have produced some pretty consistent performances in recent matches which suggest they are one of the stronger teams in the tournament once again. The Sixers have been somewhat more inconsistent but have the ability to beat any team on their day. Against a strong Strikers’ bowling unit, their middle order may struggle to have the same success that has been key to their victories so far and that may give the hosts the edge.
