THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • Adelaide Strikers are coming off an abysmal defeat by Sydney Thunder by 71 runs as they were bowled out for a feeble 97 after the Thunder hit 168/6 on a fairly good track so they will be desperate to bounce back here after not playing in over a week.

  • The Strikers are boosted by the availability of wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey following national team duty with Australia and that will see him come in to open the innings and rekindle what is one of the best opening partnerships in the tournament with Jake Weatherald while Billy Stanlake also returns.

  • They will however be without Travis Head and Peter Siddle though as they are with the Australia squad in preparation for the Test series with Sri Lanka and they are replaced by Carey and spinner Michael Cormack.

HOBART HURRICANES

Coach: Adam Griffith

Captain: Matthew Wade

  • Hobart Hurricanes have played the joint fewest number of matches along with the Adelaide Strikers yet have a four-point lead at the top having won seven of their eight matches so far and they come off a stunning win over Perth Scorchers after James Faulkner smashed 16 in the final over to chase down 177/9.

  • They are able to name an unchanged squad once again for this match as continuity has benefitted them massively in the first half of the tournament, and they can keep faith with the same eleven here.

  • Jofra Archer was taken out of the bowling attack by the umpire against the Scorchers for bowling two beamers so he will be looking to bounce back and find more control in his bowling against the Strikers.

THE PREDICTION

The Hurricanes continue to impress with their stunning form and even when one or two of their key players fail to produce, the others seem to step up every time. That said, they face a tough match here against a Strikers’ team that beat them in the final of BBL07 last year. They are more than capable of beating the leaders and they have a strong record at home against the Hurricanes. The changes to the team may not help especially against the super consistent Hurricanes, but the Strikers can get a win over the leaders here.
