Anthony Smith: 58-fight veteran still producing the goods
Anthony Smith (38-20) has his third fight of 2024 as even after 58 fights and at the age of 36, he remains as active as ever. He is coming off a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Roman Dolidze at UFC 303 and that was his fourth loss in his last six fights. While title contention is not something that he will be concerned with at this stage of his career, Smith continues to put on entertaining fights and is as proud a fighter as it gets.
Dominick Reyes: Former light heavyweight contender on comeback trail
Dominick Reyes (13-4) is coming off a much-needed win last time out as he knocked out Dustin Jacoby in June. That came after a four-fight skid which were his first losses of his professional MMA career. His first loss was a title fight against Jon Jones while his second also was as he fought Jan Blachowicz for the vacant title. He then went on to be knocked out against Jiri Prochazka and Ryan Spann as his career stalled badly. He took 18 months out of action to reset and recover mentally and physically before returning in June this year and the break looked to have benefited him significantly.
Anthony Smith vs Dominick Reyes Prediction
Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes are ranked 13 and 12 respectively in the light heavyweight division and they remain as competitive as ever even if they are arguably in the twilight of their careers.
Reyes is looking to rebuild and get back on track and one could argue that with a win here, he could return to the top ten and get back involved in something meaningful fights in the division.
So much will depend on where he is at psychologically as he was clearly struggling but the win last time out will do him wonders. The fact it was a knockout will also help him and he will look to get the edge over Smith with his leg kicks and striking.
Smith is as game as ever and credit to him for continuing to fight at such a high level after so many wars in this division. His longevity is impressive and he continues to be involved in highly entertaining bouts which is clearly why he keeps getting the call for these big cards.
This will likely be another war however and Reyes does have excellent striking. We would have a slight concern if Reyes gets rocked as to how much punch resistance he has these days but we do marginally prefer him to out strike Smith in what could be a Fight of the Night contender.
Prediction: Dominick Reyes to win
