Anna Blinkova vs Panna Udvarty prediction

Anna Blinkova suffered early exits in Charleston and Rouen to Ann Li and Linda Fruhvirtova respectively and will hope to get back on track with a good run at the Madrid Open. She performed at a higher level during the earlier part of the year, which saw her make the quarter-finals of the Linz Open and ATX Open in late January and the midway point of February. She still made it through the qualifying stages as the number one seed here.

Panna Udvarty has been given a wildcard and will be Blinkova’s opponent. She defeated first seed and recent Miami Open semi-finalist Alexandra Eala at the round-of-16 stage of a WTA 125k event in Oeiras last week before losing in the quarter-finals to compatriot Dalma Galfi. She lost to the same opponent in the semi-finals of La Bisbal d’Emporda just a week earlier so she does have plenty of clay court tennis under her belt.

Udvarty could be a tricky first-round opponent for Blinkova but we think she’s decent value for getting through in three sets.
