Ann Li vs Coco Gauff prediction
Ann Li continued her fine run in her first ever Madrid Open with a brilliant performance to defeat Leylah Fernandez and get through to the third-round. Li benefitted from errors in the Canadian’s game but remained solid at the back of the court and forced errors from her opponent.
She now takes on Coco Gauff who recovered from a dreadful start to beat Dayana Yastremska 0-6 6-2 7-5. Gauff also struggled to close out the final set as she was pegged back after going a double break up and then failed to initially serve out the match at 5-3 up with Yastremska saving three match points.
Gauff eventually got the job done but won’t have it easy against Li. She does lead the head-to-head 2-0 though they’ve never played each other on clay before. Their last encounter was in Berlin three years ago, with Gauff winning in straight sets. There must be improvements in her game if she is to go deep in this competition but we’re backing the 21-year-old to make it through in three sets.
