Angers Preview: Competitive Angers

Alexandre Dujeux led Angers to the Ligue 2 title last season and they began their return to Ligue 1 really slowly but have since pushed themselves into the middle-of-the-table with just one defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions.

The home team defeated Strasbourg by three goals to one in midweek in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France to back up scoring a 90th minute equaliser against Le Havre at Stade Raymond Kopa last weekend.

Marseille Preview: De Zerbi’s Marseille

Roberto De Zerbi’s band of controversial characters at Stade Velodrome have produced some entertaining watches on the pitch this season and that continued last weekend to defeat Olympique Lyonnais by three goals to two down on the south coast.

L’OM went 1-0 down early in the second-half of that match via Corentin Tolisso before Mason Greenwood and Adrien Rabiot turned the game on its head. Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty then levelled things before an 85th minute winner scored by Brazil international Luiz Henrique.

Angers Team News: Defensive injuries

Angers are dealing with a couple of key absentees at the back as centre-back Cedric Hountondji is sidelined alongside Haiti international right-back Carlens Arcus. Former Marseille attacker Bamba Dieng is also an injury doubt for this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Fofana; Courcoul, Biumla, Lefort, Hanin; Aholou, Belkelba; Allevinah, Abdelli, El Melali; Lepaul

Unavailable: Hountondji (Injured), Arcus (Injured)

Questionable: Cherif (Injured), Dieng (Injured)

Marseille Team News: Harit setback

Amine Harit has been unavailable for most of this campaign but just as he was returning to the first-team, he is now a doubt once again due to a calf issue alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia with experienced centre-back Chancel Mbemba among those that are definitely absent.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Balerdi, Cornelius; Luiz Henrique, Rongier, Hojbjerg, Merlin; Nadir, Rabiot; Greenwood

Unavailable: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Mbemba (Injured), Carboni (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)

Questionable: Kondogbia (Injured), Harit (Injured)

Angers vs Marseille Prediction

Angers have bee competitive in Ligue 1 this season with a tight defensive record and they have got results by frustrating sides, as they did in a 1-0 win at the Velodrome in the reverse fixture between these two. However, they are coming up against a side that, having switched to a 3-4-2-1 system, are more suited to playing quickly on the counter-attack and Angers also have key absentees at the back so a Marseille win is to be expected for this one.
