Andrey Rublev returns to Australia where he has enjoyed some good success in recent years reaching the quarter-finals in three of the last four years.

He did play in Hong Kong at the start of January but was knocked out by Fabian Marozsan in three sets. He is going to have to play much better here as he faces talented youngster Joao Fonseca.

18-year-old Brazilian was in sensational form in winning the Next Gen Finals at the back end of 2024 against some quality opponents like Alex Michelsen and Arthur Fils. 

He had no trouble qualifying for the Australian Open as he hammered all three opponents in straight sets to earn his spot for the very first time.

This is going to be an incredibly tough test for Rublev. Fonseca is playing some great tennis right now and will fancy an upset. We would not be surprised if that happened given how well Fonseca is playing and how Rublev is prone to upsets.
