Andrea Vavassori makes a rare appearance in the singles as the Italian doubles specialist even came through two rounds of qualifying to reach the first round in Rotterdam.

He beat two relative unknowns in the qualifying phase but now he has been handed a tough opening tie as he meets Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime is coming into this tournament in good shape having already won two events so far in 2025. He won the Adelaide International in the week prior to the Australian Open and then he picked up the Open Occitanie last week beating Aleksandar Kovacevic in the final on Sunday.

It is a quick turnaround to this tournament so much will depend on his physical condition but all the momentum is with him right now. In many ways, this is a the kindest tie he could have been given and while Vavassori will be competitive, Auger-Aliassime should simply be too good for him here.
