Alexei Popyrin will be feeling good about his clay-court game ahead of his clash with Alexander Bublik in Madrid.

The Aussie defeated surface specialist and two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud in his run to the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo and has a 2-0 winning head-to-head record against his second-round opponent at the Caja Magica.

Bublik is a former quarter-finalist at this tournament and reached the fourth round last year, so he will be a threat, especially after coming through some tense moments in a 7-6 7-6 win over Alex Michelsen in the first round.
