Alexandre Pantoja: Brazilian champ determined to prove top dog status

Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) will defend his UFC flyweight championship belt for the third time here against UFC newcomer Kai Asakura. Pantoja wont eh title by beating Brandon Moreno at UFC 290, defended it against Brandon Royval at UFC 296 and then once again versus Steve Erceg at UFC 301 in May. He has beaten the best the UFC had to offer so far so it is no surprise to see him being paired against Asakura to measure if the Japanese star can live up to his hype.

Kai Asakura: Japanese superstar looking to make his mark in UFC

Kai Asakura (21-4) signed a contract with the UFC back in June and he now makes his much-anticipated debut and is handed a title shot immediately. After a dominant run in Rizin, Asakura will now get to test himself against the best the UFC has to offer and it will be fascinating how he measures up. The Japanese superstar has only lost four fights but three of those have come via knockout so there is some fragility there – unlike Pantoja who has never been stopped. He does possess serious knockout power himself though and he will be determined to stand and strike with the Brazilian.

Alexandre Pantoja vs Kai Asakura Prediction

This is one of the most intriguing main events we have had in the UFC for some time and there is plenty of hype around the Japanese star Kai Asakura who is making his debut in the organisation.

He has a highly impressive record in Rizin but it will be interesting to see how that compares to the quality in the UFC.

We highly doubt it will come close to the levels we see in the UFC especially in the flyweight division.

Pantoja has cleaned out the division in recent fights and while there are some fighters with good potential, it is hard to make a case for any of them really challenging the talented Brazilian.

He is incredibly tough, never been stopped and it is hard to see that happening here. He should have the all-round quality to beat Asakura and we would not rule out the stoppage too.

Prediction: Alexandre Pantoja to win
