Alexandra Eala vs Iga Swiatek Prediction

Wildcard entry Alexandra Eala has undoubtedly been the story of the women’s draw so far, with the 19-year-old breaking new ground in Miami this week. Ranked 140th prior to this tournament, the Filipino’s victory over Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the third round saw her become the first player from her country to defeat a top-ten player in the Open Era.

Eala had already seen off Katie Volynets and Jelena Ostapenko this past week, while she received a walkover in the last 16 as a chronic back issue caused Paula Badosa to withdraw from the tournament.

For Iga Swiatek, this is much more familiar territory with the world number two yet to drop a set on her way to the quarter-finals. She was tested by Elina Svitolina in the round of 16 but the Pole nicked the first set on a tie-break and applied pressure in the right moments to take the second set 6-3.

This is unsurprisingly the first meeting between these two players and it undoubtedly represents the biggest match of Eala’s young career. Having already defeated two Grand Slam champions en route to the last eight, the youngster is more than deserving of her spot, but she will likely need to raise her game even further if she is to continue her dream run.

Swiatek is the overwhelming favourite, but it’s not unfathomable that Eala could win a set here. For those looking for a significant return, backing over 2.5 sets could be the play.

Alexandra Eala vs Iga Swiatek Tip: Over 2.5 sets
