Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini prediction

Two-time Monte Carlo semi-finalist Alexander Zverev begins his latest bid to complete the set of Masters 1000 titles on clay with a tough assignment against Matteo Berrettini. 

The top seed has won in both Madrid and Rome on two occasions but has yet to find the magic formula at the MCCC. 

The German backed up his runner-up spot at the Australian Open with quarter-final runs on the dirt in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro but has since lost three of his last five matches. 

Berrettini overcame qualifier Mariano Navone 6-4 6-4 in the first round and will be relishing the chance to test himself against the world number two. 

Zverev leads the head-to-head, but Berrettini won their most recent encounter in straight sets at Wimbledon two years ago. 

They have met three times on clay with the German 2-1 up on the surface, notably beating the Italian 6-7 6-4 6-3 in the final in Madrid in 2021. 

Berrettini will need the big serve and ferocious forehand combo to be firing to prevail and it could be a gruelling, lengthy battle with plenty of support for the Italian.
