Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Arnaldi Prediction

Alexander Zverev wasted a couple of good opportunities in the last couple of weeks to earn some valuable ranking points in South America and close the gap on world number one Jannik Sinner.

Zverev was surprisingly knocked out in the quarter-finals in both Buenos Aires and Rio over the last fortnight and that will have been somewhat deflating for him.

He now returns to hard courts in Mexico and will take on Matteo Arnaldi in the first round; somebody he has yet to meet on the ATP Tour.

After a slow start to the year, Arnaldi is improving by the tournament and the 24-year-old made the quarters un Dallas and the semis in Delray Beach. He will relish the opportunity to face Zverev and potentially cause the upset.

It will be interesting to see if Zverev adapts back to hard courts seamlessly but it would be no surprise if it takes a little time. We can see Arnaldi testing him here but ultimately Zverev should progress.
