Alexander Zverev was clinical in his takedown of Jacob Fearnley, beating the Brit 6-2, 6-4. Most impressive was the accuracy of Zverev’s serve, with 90% of his first serves going in and 82% of those being won by Zverev, which helped him maintain control of the contest. The German was also successful in three of the five break points he earned.

Jordan Thompson is coming off the back of having taken an impressive scalp in the last round, defeating one of the top young talents in the game in Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Thompson held his nerve to win consecutive tie-breakers and he’ll need the same grit to stand a chance vs Zverev.

However, it’s unlikely that Thompson will get to that stage when considering how effective Zverev is on serve and how ruthless he is when given a sniff of an opportunity to break. That makes backing the top seed to triumph in straight sets the smart move.
