Top seed Alexander Zverev enters the Miami Open hoping for a strong run after a string of underwhelming performances since losing to Jannik Sinner in the final of the Australian Open in January.

The German followed his runner-up spot in Melbourne with a pair of quarter-final exits In Brazil and Argentina, before bowing out in the round of 16 at the Mexican Open. Most recently, the world number two was a shock loser in his first match at Indian Wells.

It was during his run to the final at the Australian Open that Zverev first faced Fearnley, defeating the Brit in straights sets in the third round – Fearnley’s best run at a major.

Indeed, this is only Fearnley’s second appearance at an ATP 1000 event after his recent first-round exit in Indian Wells. The 23-year-old came through qualifying for this event and defeated Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-4 in the first round.

In light of his excellent start to the year, Fearnley is unlikely to be swept over here but Zverev’s class should tell. The top seed – a former finalist in Miami – Is determined to make a mark after some shaky results, and he is tipped to progress in straight sets.
