Alexander Shevchenko vs Hubert Hurkacz Prediction

After a tough opening match against Spain where he lost to an inspired Pablo Carreno Busta, Alexander Shevchenko has bounced back nicely winning his last couple of singles’ matches.

Shevchenko beat Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 7-6 in their win in the final group match and then he showed great character in coming from a set down in the quarters to overcome Daniel Masur 6-7 6-2 6-2.

The 24-year-old will now face a stiff test as he comes up against world number 16 Hubert Hurkacz.

The big Pole lost both of his group-stage matches against Casper Ruud and then Tomas Machac but responded well in the quarters by beating GB’s Billy Harris 7-6 7-5.

The pair have met three times in the last two years and it is Hurkacz who has won all three of those matches. Two of them did go to three sets and it would be no surprise if this is another close and hard-fought match.

Shevchenko is arguably playing the better tennis right now but Hurkacz seems to have something over him. The fact that Poland have been in Sydney the whole time while Team Kazakhstan have come from Perth for the semis, means we just lean towards Hurkacz here.
