ALEXANDER ROMANOV: MOLDOVAN STAR NEEDS WIN AFTER TOUGH RUN
Alexander Romanov (17-3) has had a tough time of it of late as he has lost three of his last four bouts and is in desperate need of a win. Those are the only three losses in his career to date but suggest he has reached his ceiling as he has struggled against higher-quality opponents. He comes off a submission loss to Jailton Almeida in June at UFC 302 and after being originally scheduled to face Derrick Lewis on this card, opponents were changed and he now meets Nascimento.
RODRIGO NASCIMENTO: BRAZILIAN DESPERATE TO BOUNCE BACK FROM TKO LOSS
31-year-old Brazilian Rodrigo Nascimento (11-2-1) is coming off a TKO loss at the powerful hands of Derrick Lewis so he will be eager to bounce back here. He had won his previous three fights in the Octagon all via decision as he used his wrestling effectively to control his fights. Six of his 11 wins have come via submission and he will likely go a little more cautious when coming off a knockout loss and go back to basics here.
ALEXANDER ROMANOV VS RODRIGO NASCIMENTO PREDICTION
While it is the heavyweights and we all want to see fireworks, we have a feeling that both fighters may go back to basics and fight somewhat cautiously in this one. Both have suffered stoppages in recent fights and they will be desperate to avoid another loss here.
We expect to see a lot of action on the ground and it will be interesting to see who can gain control. Romanov is likely to be the one more willing to stand and trade as he possesses the greater knockout power, but he too will know his best route to victory may be on the ground also.
There is nothing to divide these two fighters but we marginally edge Romanov who arguably has more routes to victory and we do not love fighters coming off knockout losses like Nascimento. However, our play here is on the fight to go the distance.
PREDICTION: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE
