Alex Michelsen vs Karen Khachanov Prediction

Alex Michelsen followed up his excellent win over Stefanos Tsitsipas by beating Australian James McCabe in the second round in straight sets. His serve was the key factor behind his win in that match as he had high percentage success on his first and second. His return game was strong but he only managed to take two of the 14 break points he generated so he will have to be more ruthless here.

He now meets 19th-seed Karen Khachanov who has looked pretty solid so far. He ended the season last year in sensational form and he has started 2025 where he left off. He eased to a straight-sets victory against Adrian Mannarino in the first round and then beat the talented and competitive Canadian Gabriel Diallo in four sets last time out.

The pair have never met before so there is no read from previous meetings. We do like Michelsen in general and he has started well in Melbourne. Khachanov is playing some of the best tennis of his career and his experience may just be key in this match-up so we just lean towards him.
