Alex Michelsen eased past Colton Smith in his opening match but it was not all plain sailing for the 20-year-old American against his compatriot. He ran out 6-3 6-4 winner but he had to fend off a number of break points.

He faces fifth-seed Daniil Medvedev who was always comfortable in his opening match as he overcame Yunchaokete Bu 6-2 6-2. Medvedev won 90% on his first serve and created an impressive 14 break points as he was dominated throughout.

The pair have never met before and that only adds to the intrigue for this match. Medvedev’s serve probably just gives him the edge in this match and he matches if not betters Michelsen in most other areas. If he is on his game, he should win this one and progress.
