Alex Michelsen vs Alexander Bublik prediction
Alex Michelsen gets his European clay swing underway on the back of a solid quarter-final run in Houston.
The 20-year-old missed Monte Carlo but will hope to reach the second round in Madrid for the first time at the expense of the maverick that is Alexander Bublik.
The Kazakhstani has tumbled out of the top 20 in the past 12 months and is searching for better form, currently sitting just inside the top 80.
Statistically both players are weaker on clay, but Bublik has some pedigree in this event having previously reached the quarter-final and he also made the round of 16 last year.
This will be a first meeting between two players with big serves and plenty of heavy ground strokes on the menu, but Michelsen is a player on the rise and his solid tennis may have the edge of Bublik’s unpredictability in the fast conditions.
