Alex de Minaur will be a red-hot favourite to down Lorenzo Sonego in Madrid.

The Aussie is in fine form having posted a quarter-final run in Barcelona on the back of reaching the last four in Monte Carlo.

The world number seven meets Lorenzo Sonego for the fourth time and boasts a 3-0 record against the Italian and has only lost one set in that time.

Sonego ended a three-match losing streak with a solid 6-4 7-6 triumph over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round, but he will need to find his fluent best against the rapid recovery skills of ‘Demon’ to produce an upset here. 

Given the world number 43 had only ever won one match in Madrid prior to this week, the obvious pick is the Aussie.
