Former finalist Kei Nishikori makes his first appearance in Madrid since 2021 against Aleksandar Vukic.

The Japanese star’s rise back up the rankings in 2025 looked to be gathering pace after plenty of injury hell, but his fitness struggles struck again in Houston. 

The 35-year-old retired from his round of 16 clash with Christopher Eubanks and this is his first match back. 

The outcome of this one may well depend on just how fit the former world number four is given that Vukic has lost his last nine matches. 

The Aussie enjoyed a career-best run at his home major in January, but it’s been a confidence-sapping period ever since.
