Aleksandar Kovacevic vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry prediction
Tomas Martin Etcheverry cracked the world’s top 30 around this time last year and will be hoping a strong run in the clay swing can propel him back into the reckoning for a seeding at the French Open.
The 6 ft 5 Argentine is most at home on the dirt and has already picked up some solid results on the surface in South America this year, notably reaching the quarter finals in Santiago.
The World No.44, who progressed to the last eight at Roland-Garros two years ago, has endured some frustration on hard court recently with a first-round loss to Jakub Mensik in Indian Wells followed by a more disappointing exit at the same stage in Miami where he was ousted 6-3 6-0 by Lucky Loser, Gabriel Diallo.
Etcheverry’s confidence may have been hit by the nature of his last outing and Kovacevic has caught some headlines already this year, reaching his first ATP Tour-level final in Montpellier where he suffered a heartbreaking 2-6 7-6 6-7 loss to Felix Auger-Aliassime. However, his run to the title match saw him clinch his first Top 10 win when he claimed Andrey Rublev’s scalp in the last four.
More recently the 26-year-old won his second Challenger title of the year at Cap Cana, but the success was sandwiched by first-round defeats in Indian Wells and Miami.
On a hard court this could well spell danger for no.7 seed Etcheverry, but given his greater pedigree on clay courts and Kovacevic’s lower win rate on the surface, we are picking the South American to prevail.
Aleksandar Kovacevic vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry tip: Tomas Martin Etcheverry to win 2-0
