Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction
Carlos Alcaraz overcame a huge test against rising French star Arthur Fils to reach the last four on just his second appearance at the Monte Carlo Masters.
The four-time Grand Slam champion fought back to prevail 4-6 7-5 6-3 on Court Rainier III in a high-octane, rollercoaster contest.
The young Spaniard hit survival mode on several occasions against the heavy-hitting Fils, fending off triple break point at 5-5 in the second set before turning on the turbo chargers from 1-3 down in the decider to grind out a hard-fought victory.
Alcaraz will now meet his compatriot Davidovich Fokina in the last four after the world number 42 made romped to a routine 6-2 6-3 win over Aussie Alexei Popyrin.
Foki played a solid all-round game, shrugging off his opponent’s nine aces as he converted three of nine break chances and faced none on his own serve.
The former Monte Carlo finalist will be a big underdog against Alcaraz and lost their previous meeting 7-6 6-4 on the dirt in Barcelona two years ago.
Fokina Davidovich is most certainly a threat on clay but Alcaraz is finding ways to win even when he’s not at his best in The Principality and it would be a brave call to bet against him here.
