Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Andrey Rublev prediction

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina backed up his run to the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters with a crushing victory over Stan Wawrinka in the first-round of the Barcelona Open. The Spaniard won 6-1 6-4 and is playing some pretty inspired tennis to start this clay court season.

Andrey Rublev will have his work cut out against Davidovich Fokina, but the fourth seed did enjoy a similarly comfortable first-round win as he beat Jesper de Jong 6-1 6-3. The Russian dominated the entire match with lethal hitting, especially on his forehand side as he wrapped up an easy victory.

Though Davidovich Fokina is playing well, he trails Rublev 5-0 in the head-to-head, with three of those matches being on clay. Their last match on the surface was in Madrid last year, with Rublev winning a mammoth 12-10 tie break on his way to winning 7-6 6-4.

We think this match will be incredibly hard-fought with both players pretty evenly matched on clay. Rublev holds a psychological edge with the head-to-head but considering the way he’s playing right now, Davidovich Fokina won’t have a better chance to finally grab a win against the world number eight.
